The Department of Physics is mainly doing research in fields of solid-state physics and optics which are promising for applications. The accentuated subjects of research in recent years include nanophysics, magneto-optical spectroscopy, and spintronics. The department does important experimental researches the background of which is provided by laboratories set up by EU funds and workshops of long tradition. The department gives introductory courses in physics for engineering students and more specialized courses for undergraduate physicist and for the graduate students of the Graduate School in Physics.
